Preventing undemocratic methods in ecology-related campaigns

The global community currently faces an immense problem. The United Nations Politcal Committee is seeking for ample solutions to prevent undemocratic methods in ecology-related campaigns.

As Ralph Nader, an American attorney, author, lecturer, political activist, and four-time candidate for President of the United States comments, “The use of solar energy has not been opened up because the oil industry does not own the sun”.

What are some undemocratic methods in ecology-related campaigns?

There are no clear international guidelines dictating a clear manner which countries must abide by when dealing with ecology-related campaigns which strongly endangers the aforementioned group as they are not necessarily granted a safety haven. Therefore it is of the utmost importance that there is set amount of guidelines outlining the manner in which non-governmental organizations striving for the protection of the environment should be treated.

When speaking about undemocratic methods in ecology-related campaigns, this year’s Politcal Committee seeks to create specific guidelines for the aforementioned topic, in order to set the stepping stone for future debates.

Chair introduction

Dear BALMUN participants,

I am ever so proud to welcome you to this year’s Political Committee.

Let me shortly introduce myself to you: My name is Maximilian Müller and as the name easily shows, I obviously have a German background. I currently attend 12th grade at a Catholic school in Berlin. In my spare time I play some musical instruments and join different orchestras and ensembles.

Since I participated for my first time in the Berlin Model United Nation conference in 2008, I have totally fallen in love with it. The combinations of discussing political issues, which influence the whole global community, and simultaneously talking and therefore improving one’s English language skills show that MUN conferences are powerful and fruitful events at the same time.

This year’s topic “Caring for Climate” is a question which has been discussed for a long time. However, there are still a lot of efforts which have to be solved.

I encourage you all to prepare yourself in an adequate way; only then the conference will be successful.

I am looking forward to see you in June.

Maximilian Müller

Chair introduction

Dear BALMUN participants,

Let me introduce myself. My name is Jung-Hyun, and I am from the John F Kennedy School in Berlin. Please don't hesitate to ask me for pronunciation help. I will have the honor of serving as chair for the Political Committee this year, along with my co-chair Maximilian. I am currently 11th grade, and I love listening to music, especially classical, hip-hop, and reggae. I am very engaged in the student council program, serving a leadership role, and I am an amateur violin player. Other than that, this is my first MUN experience as a chair, and I will strive to put my best effort in making PC of BALMUN truly unique.

We are already looking forward to the Conference! We also hope for fruitful debates, and an unforgettable experience.

In order to keep the passion and vigor in our debates, please remember to research the topics thoroughly, which will make your experience at Rostock much more rewarding and worthwhile.

Please bear in mind that every delegate attends the conference prepared with at least one resolution for the topic. In order to keep the debate more fruitful, it would be best to write two resolutions.

To help you start with your preparation, we have included summaries about the topic that will be discussed in this year's Political Committee. Furthermore, we have included some research links to provide ideas of where to find more information.

If you have any questions while preparing for the conference, do not hesitate to contact us at junghyunan(at)gmail.com or maxmueller(at)gmx.de. We will be of your assistance!

Hoping that PC will be Sexy,

Jung-Hyun
