Every year the Innerstädtisches Gymnasium Rostock, Germany, presents the Baltic Model United Nations Conference. This MUN-Conference is made by students with the support of Mrs. Koch and Mr. Breitkopf -the MUN-directors- and countless former students.
With the experiences of the BERMUN conferences in Berlin Zehlendorf –participation since 1993– and OLMUN –in 2007 –the first BALMUN Conference took place in the Hanseatic City of Rostock in 2008 and it was a great success. There were a lot of factors behind the idea of an international BALMUN Conference. Of course also a small –but strong-willed– group of students who liked the imagination of an own MUN. They did really work hard and in 2007 at the open house day of the school, 20 students simulated the UN for just one day. And it made BALMUN much more public. One year after this special day in 2007 and after one year of preparation, the first BALMUN Conference was held in 2008 and had the title: "Facing regional challenges in a globalized world". BALMUN is said to have a personal character and people tell us they feel welcome.
Although the original idea was to have conferences in every second year, we continued to have annual conferences. They grew and became more professional. In 2012 there were over 160 delegates and chairs from 22 countries all over the world. The fifth BALMUN was combined with considerable results and an absolutely great team!
