Chair introductionDear delegates, I have the honour to serve as one of your chairs in the Disarmament Committe at this year's conference. My name is Anne Dijkstra and I am 18 years old. Currently, I attend the Stedelijk Gymnasium Leiden in the Netherlands from which I will graduate this year. After graduating I am going to study Archeology and I hope to be accepted at the Royal Conservatory. BALMUN 2010 will be my tenth conference, and the first one chairing. I like reading a good book, hanging out with friends and travelling. I especially enjoy backpacking which I did last summer. I also play the cello and participate in an orchestra. I am sure that BALMUN 2010 will be a great conference and that you, honorable delegates, Looking forward to seeing you all in June! Anne Dijkstra |
Chair introductionHonorable delegates, My name is Torge Schwandt and I would like to welcome all of you to the 3rd international Baltic Model United Nations (BALMUN) conference. It is my distinguished pleasure to be part of the BALMUN project again and in that regard to serve as one of the chairs of the Disarmament Committee at BALMUN 2010. After being the BALMUN Secretary-General at the past two conferences I am anxious to get back to the committee work this year in order to make BALMUN 2010 a great success for every participant, especially the ones who have not taken part in an UN simulation yet. I am looking forward to fruitful debates and outstanding resolutions by delegates who hopefully some day will not just simulate to make the world a better place but furthermore contribute in their own individual way to a globalized, peaceful and sustainable world. A Model United Nations Conference is without a doubt an enlightening and fascinating experience – BALMUN 2010 might be as well. Best regards Torge Schwandt |
